Major electric vehicle (EV) makers saw an increase in insurance registrations in China last week as the National Day holiday break wore off.
For the week of Oct. 7-13, Nio (NYSE: NIO ) saw 4,700 vehicle insurance registrations in China, up 4.44 percent from 4,500 the previous week, according to data shared today by Li Auto (NASDAQ: LI) .
Li Auto stopped sharing weekly numbers of insurance registrations earlier this year after doing so for about 1 year. It resumed sharing those numbers in early May.
October 1-7 was China's national holiday, which caused disruptions to vehicle deliveries as well as insurance registrations earlier in the month, and October 12 was an extra working day, albeit a Saturday.
The data shared by Li Auto is by brand and does not include sales of Nio's Onvo sub-brand.
Separately, according to data shared on Weibo by Zeekr (NYSE: ZK ) vice president Lin Jinwen, Onvo had 900 insurance registrations last week. Insurance registrations for the Nio brand it shares are 4,700, the same number shared by Li Auto.
Nio officially launched Onvo's first model, the L60, on September 19th and shipments began on September 28th.
The electric car maker delivered 21,181 vehicles in September, the second highest on record after June's high of 21,209.
This is the fifth consecutive month that Nio as a group has shipped more than the 20,000 mark, including 20,349 for core brand Nio and 832 for Onvo.
On October 11, the Nio brand celebrated the milestone of its 600,000th production car delivery.
Li Auto had 13,400 insurance registrations last week, up 54.02 percent from 8,700 the previous week.
It delivered a record 53,709 vehicles in September, surpassing the previous record of 51,000 in July.
That's up 48.94% year-over-year and up 11.61% from August's 48,122.
Li Auto announced yesterday that it has seen its 1 millionth vehicle roll off the line, 58 months after its first vehicle rolled off the line in November 2019.
Delivery of its 1 millionth vehicle could still take days, given factors including logistics.
Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV ) had 3,900 insurance registrations last week, up 39.29 percent from 2,800 the previous week.
The electric car maker delivered 21,352 vehicles in September, up 39.46% year-on-year and up 52.12% from August.
Xpeng's new Mona M03 model shipped more than 10,000 units in its first full month of shipping, the company said on Oct. 1, without disclosing specific numbers.

The US electric car maker sold 72,200 vehicles in China in September, surpassing August's 63,456 for its highest figure since the start of the year, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).
Model Y retail sales in China in September were 48,202 units, the highest for a single month so far this year, while Model 3 retail sales in September were 23,998 units, the highest since September 2022, according to data , collected by CnEVPost.

Zeekr launched the Zeekr 7X electric SUV, its second model for the mainstream EV market, on September 20th, with deliveries starting on September 21st.
As of Oct. 7, firm orders for the Zeekr 7X exceeded 20,000 units, with shipments expected to exceed 10,000 units in the first full month of shipping, according to a previous statement shared with CnEVPost.
Zeekr said yesterday that shipments of the 7X have assumed 10,000 units, 25 days after the model's launch.
Leapmotor (HKG: 9863) had insurance registrations of 8,700 units last week, up 148.57% from 3,500 the previous week.
It delivered 33,767 vehicles in September, marking the second consecutive month with more than 30,000 units, as well as the fourth consecutive record month.
That's up 113.72 percent from 15,800 a year ago and up 11.42 percent from 30,305 in August.
Leapmotor debuted the B10 at the Paris motor show on Monday, and the compact SUV, the first global model on the new B platform, will go on sale next year.
Aito – a brand jointly created by Huawei and Seres Group – recorded insurance registrations of 7,100 vehicles last week, up 54.35 percent from 4,600 the previous week.
